Cres is part of the Kvarner archipelago and is the biggest island in Croatia. Connected to the island of Lošinj by a pull-bridge in Osor. A special attractions of this region is the freshwater Vrana Lake, a fascinating natural phenomenon that supplies the islands with drinking water. Cres is characterized by great contrasts between the northern sub-Mediterranean part, and central and southern Mediterranean part which is abundant in barren pastures and thick macchia. The great wealth of flora and fauna, with an exceptional number of endemic species, is a real challenge for nature lovers. One of the last habitats of rare bird – the griffon vulture.
